The Evening Ritual
Par Elif Demir

Every woman we admire has a ritual, and none of them will tell you about it unprompted. Here is ours.
First, silence. Phone face-down in another room. The evening begins when the noise ends — perfume applied in a hurry smells like hurry.
Fragrance goes on skin, not fabric, and it goes on first: pulse points while the skin is still warm from the bath. By the time you dress, Champagne de Minuit has settled from announcement into aura.
Then the mouth. An evening lip — a true rouge noir — is applied slowly, from the center outward, in a mirror you love. This is not makeup; this is punctuation.
Last, the jewelry, in order of intimacy: earrings, then ring, then the pendant that sits closest to the heart. Walk out the door without checking the mirror again. You already know.
